Will black bars focus bit rate to the center? (YouTube)
I’m uploading high-motion game-play to YouTube, rendering with Vegas 13. YouTube generally destroys my videos because they require way more bit rate than YouTube allows BUT I was curious if having cinematic black bars + VBR would focus the available bit rate to the center & if it would be the same way on YouTube.
I’m using Mainconcept/AVC Internet HD but with custom settings, which ends up looking amazing once rendered, so YouTube is the issue here.
Also I am very new to this site so please let me know if this is posted in the wrong place ^.^’

Yes, black bars will not consume your bit rate leaving more bits for the parts that are not black.

I agree with JR and I have done this once myself on a mountain bike video. It helped.
Really anything static from frame to frame will work.

That’s an excellent question because you might think that it only works with VBR but it will work with CBR as well. While CBR will use the same amount of bits to represent each frame, less bits will be used to represent the black bars leaving more bits to represent the picture content for that individual frame.
