  Rendering for Vimeo

  Hi guys,

  I don’t know if I’m in the right place for this question but I thought I’d ask here first because I used Sony Vegas MS to render my project.

  Basically I made a short film a few months back and I edited and rendered it on my old version of Sony Vegas Movie Studio 10 (I know I’m in dire need of an upgrade but it still works perfectly and serves it’s purpose for me). The film is 28 minutes long and I rendered into MP4 format (720 25fps) for internet. The video file of this render is 1.6GB in size.

  I’m currently submitting it to various film festivals, some festivals looking for DVDs, others looking for download links (eg. WeTransfer or DropBox). However, there are a lot of film festivals now looking for online screener links for sites like Vimeo or Youtube. My difficulty here is that Vimeo only accepts uploads a maximum of 500GB in size and Youtube only allows uploads a maximum of 10 minutes in length, and considering my film is 28 minutes long and its video file is 1.6GB in size, it doesn’t suit either Vimeo or YouTube.

  What are my options to create an online screener link for me film? Do I bite the bullet and render my film into a smaller file size that’ll fit the 500MB upload size on Vimeo (but this would diminish its quality drastically, wouldn’t it?)? Or is there another website out there that allows for the file size and length of my film that I’ll be able to create an onliner screener link (preferably password protected)?

  Hi, the long and short of it is to upgrade a Pro account which will elevate the upload quota to 20 gig per week.

  Another option is to split the files into 400mb files and upload them over a four week period. When done suggest playing the film back in couch mode.

  Those are the only suggestions I have. Keep in mind that the Video on Demand feature is meant for distribution of your film. It may turn out that the on demand service will be paid for by paying viewers. This would also be a test market for the film. IE if it pays for itself, there is a greater chance of being successful at festivals.
