Can’t Import AVI or MP4 Videos?
I use Bandicam to recording my screen to make videos.
This problem is when I try to drag the file onto the timeline, the black circle with the line through it replaces my cursor.
I’ve tried importing AVI’s. Here is the AVI configuration:
Size: Full (My screen size, 1366×768)
FPS: 30
Codec: H.264 (Intel Quick Sync Video)Audio:
MPEG-1 L2
Bitrate: 192
Frequency: 48000 hzI also tried mp4:
Size is the same
FPS is the same
Codec: MPEG-4Audio:
Codec: AAC
Bitrate as same as before
Frequency is the same as before.I don’t know why, I am running SVP13 64 bit on my 64 windows 8.1
If anyone has better codecs I can use for free, are there any better available?
PS those are the only two available containers in Bandicam.

Vegas Pro is not expecting MPEG4 video in an AVI container. I’m not sure why the .mp4 file doesn’t work. You may have to transcode your capture files into something Vegas Pro can edit.
Try a free utility like AviDemux 2.5 and convert them to MJPEG files:

I put MPEG4 in an MP4 container, not an AVI container. With an AVI container, I used H.264.
Is there any alternatives to MJPEG? I know it isn’t the best compared to other file types.

Codec: MPEG-4”“MPEG-4” is a meaningless term. A large variety of codecs are technically MPEG-4. AVC/H.264, H.263, DivX, Xvid, ASP, SStp and so on.
The only thing in the MPEG-4 family that Vegas can read in an MP4 container is AVC/H.264. Vegas does not handle Xvid, ASP and so on at all in any container. If something is in an AVI container it is possible to install a Video for Windows codec to handle the format.
In an MP4 container Vegas should be able to handle AVC/H.264 video with AAC audio. It sounds like you might have those options available to you. If not then try converting like John suggested.

H.264 is MPEG4. So you did put AVC/H.264 MPEG4 video in an AVI container which Vegas doesn’t like.

Motion-JPEG is the same JPEG quality that your still image camera uses. If you are looking for something that is lossless try Logarith.

Hi John,
Hope you don’t mind me getting back to this topic. I found your screenshot of avidemux very helpfull. I installed avidemux to solve my problem with mp4 video’s and tried to convert them to the suggested format. But all avidemux does on my system, is crash. No problems with SVP12, other than not being able to import this type of mp4. But it doesn’t play in WMP either. Not that this particular video ever did, just older versions of mp4 video. I shot it with my phone, a Sony Xperia, which has had an upgrade or three since everything seemed to work. Now I can’t play or convert it. So what do I do next?

Did you try AviDemux 2.5? I find that 2.6 has problems. Use the older 2.5 version and see if that’s more stable.

Tried it with Avidemux 2.5.6 The difference is that now it doesn’t crash, I just get a green screen. The file doesn’t play or convert. It detected H264 and said that there might be B-frames and did I want to switch to another mode. Whether I do or don’t, the result is the same: green screen, no file.

The green screen indicates that it can’t decode the file. You’ll have to find another tool that can read the file then. You might want to ask Sony what program they recommend to work with Xperia files. Perhaps they have a utility that converts them to something useable?
