  • FCP – exporting quicktime HD file to import to AE

Posted by Wilky Black on August 10, 2009 at 2:07 pm

so we are trying to export a file from FCP
and take to to another mqachine that does not have FCP and import the file into After Effects.
The file is HD and will only import into AE with a white screen.
    does anybody have any ideas?

    thanks for the help

I’m assuming you are choosing File -> Export -> Using Quicktime, and that you are making the clip “self-contained”.

Have you tried adjusting the “Interpret footage” settings inside AE?

Do you have After Effects on the original computer (the one with FCP)?

turns out, it is quicktime that needs to be updated.
before i can update to 7.6 quicktime you must first update avid mediacomposer to v. 3 or later

sure, the video was shot on a p2 card.
imported thru a FCP machine, creating the quicktime files using version 7.6.2
then brought for editing and AE work to me.
i’m on an avid media composer adrenaline v.2.something.
therefore only have quicktime v. 7.2 and can not upgrade with this current version of media caopmoser.
a upgrade to ver 3.something on the avid allows for an upgrade on QT to 7.6.2 thus allowing everything to run smooth.
