  • Inserting Text Media moves entire timeline below it!

Do I have a group or something I can find? I’ve ungrouped everything, and googled this problem. I’m having all kinds of quirky behaviour nowadays. When I create new video track, click my spot, insert text media, it puts it where my cursor is and also moves all the clips below it. If I move them back, and insert another text event, it ties both text events together with the video track below it, and I can’t move any independently!! What the heck!! I’ve googled this and watched several videos, and nobody mentions this problem. Photos following.

Inserting text, moves timeline below on right:

Inserting second track moves timeline again!!:

Moving one text box moves both text events AND timeline below. It’s like it creating them all in a group I can deselect:

I’m a moron, for some reason I had Auto ripple set to All tracks, markers, and regions. Why would I do that, and why does it make it behave that way? Not sure what the benefit would be.

Sorry for cluttering up the forum…

Ripple edit can be nasty some times. Never edit with it on all the time. I would only turn it on when you need it to move something in unison and then quickly turn it off again. As you have seen it will happily make holes in your timeline or hide shorter events under longer events. Not nice!

In Vegas 13, if you want to move something and have it ripple, the new shuffle tool in the bottom toolbar can give you that with no possibility of forgetting that ripple is turned on after your move.

That’s really cool a new feature. sadly my install of version 13 just did not take, it’s kind of half working. 🙁

In my testing the Shuffle tool only works with one track and does not ripple other tracks. It also has bugs when working with events that are Sync Linked and Sony hasn’t fixed them yet. So I would be careful when using the Shuffle tool.
