  Audio problem in After Effects CS4

  hey guys.

  I have a sony dcr-sr220 handycam, it records in .mpg files with a 5.1 audiotrack.

  My problem is when i import the movieclips into AE it has not audio track. I’ve tried the RAM preview “.” and checked all the settings, but still no sound. And the funny thing is when I press “LL” it has no waveform.

  Can it have something to do with the 5.1 audiotrack?

  In the project window the information for the clip shows it as a Stero channel clip??

  what is the best solution for this kind of problem.??

  Either that, or more likely, the audio is multiplexed. In other words, it doesn’t exist in a discrete audio track in the video file. You can use a demuxer application (tons of free ones on the web, such as MPEG Streamclip) to demux the audio and export it as a separate audio file.

  Recently had the same problem,it was caused by the fact that my settings had changed from PAL to NTSC,how Ive no idea although a bad sound file import may have been the cause,
  As soon as I swithed back to PAL and reenabled the Audio switch i was back in bis.

  Thanks guys… I’ve solved the problem temporarily by using Sony Vegas and converting the file into a simple .avi file…

  robert willson: do you mean the settings for the Composition should be PAL and not NTSC??

  Hi dear friends,

  Melvic here and I am currently having issues with my adobe after effects CS4. When I render the final project to MPEG2, MPEG2-DVD, or even MPEG Blu-Ray, the sound or audio is being rendered as a separate file.

  I know that I checked the box that says export audio and export audio in the render dialogue box.

  It eats time rendering my projects coz I have to use adobe premiere pro so that I can incorporate the sound with the movie which incurs generation loss.

  Hope you can help me out. I am using Vista Business SP2(32bit), 2G Ram

  That’s exactly the way it has to work.
  DVD and Blu-Ray authoring applications are meant to take “elementary streams” (ie, separate video and audio files) and multiplex them (tie them together in a special container) for the authored result. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be possible for DVD/BD discs to have different audio languages, commentaries, etc.

  You could set the encoder to multiplex the results (it’s one of the tabs at the top), but that kind of file would be of little use for an authoring application. Most won’t be able to use the audio unless you demux (ie, reverse of multiplex), because even though it’s in the same file, is not in a discrete audio track.

  So, ultimately the question is: what do you need to do with these files?
