Creating a DCP Using Sony Vegas and OpenDCP
Hello Everyone:
I was faced with a shock yesterday, when I was told that I was going to need to spend a least $1,000 to transfer my project to a DCP, which is just for one festival. Some festivals do not require it, but one of the ones I am interested in does. So, I am faced with having to create a DCP file so that I can duplicate and send to multiple submissions.
I read a few blogs about OpenDCP. They used After Effects to save the file as a TIFF in one step of the process. I actually found a saving TIFF option in Sony Vegas 12. My dilemma is that I heard that doing it ourselves is not 100% reliable.
Has anyone here created a DCP? I definitely cannot afford to use Labs for this process. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have After Effects, you could easily use this

Many DCPs created with OpenDCP have been successfully submitted to film festivals.

Thank you. Very refreshing to hear. Did you see the early response where there are two other DCP software packages that can be used also. Glad to know that there are developments of software that will allow us to produce quality results without paying a fortune.

I can only speak for OpenDCP. Since they are free, you can try them all and see which one best matches your workflow and preference.
