  • Syncing audio to variable frame rate footage?

I have a lot of mp4 footage that I recently found out was captured with a variable frame rate but I’m having some trouble syncing separate audio captured to it. On the timeline the files match up from where i synced my audio to the footage, but because it’s a variable frame rate it slowly drifts apart. Is there a way that I can fix within Sony Vegas or will I have to use a program like handbrake to make the frame rate constant?

You will still have drift even if the frame rate is constant. This is because the audio was recorded with a different device and the clocks of the video and audio devices we not slaved together. You’ll need to stretch and resync the audio manually. This is what we all do when we record the audio on a separate device regardless of frame rate.
