  • Where is 3D Grid Guide?

Posted by Mike Prindle on July 21, 2009 at 10:53 pm

I’m fairly new to AE and have the CS4 product. I noticed in several tutorials that when the presenter demo’s the layers/effects by using a cam orbit in 3D space (where all the layers are shown in relationship to each other), there is a 3D grid (wireframe like) around the outside of all the layers; like a 3D background, but not really a part of the comp. They look like grid guides, much like grids in Photoshop that can be toggled ON-OFF.

Where can I find these? Are they in the AE interface?

    Thanks,
    Mike

A little technique I like to use is to:

    i) Create a solid
    ii) Add a Grid effect
    iii) Turn 3D on
iv) Rotate it 90° in the X dimension
    v) Make it a guide layer and lock it

That creates your ground plane and helps keep you oriented.

    Cheers,
    Ben
