Need guidance with Border FX

Hello All

I have had this issue for years and I stumble upon it once and I while and I figured I would ask here this time.
I am working in a 16:9 project that includes 16:9, 4:3 and various other dimensional pics. When I use Sony’s “Border” FX, on an event, unless the event is the same as the project setting (16:9) it will only affect the top and bottom portions of my event, NOT the sides. If I use pan/crop and match output aspect it will then do all sides, however it also changes the aspect of the event to something I don’t want to use. For example, if I am using a portrait of a person and what to soften the edges, it will only soften the top and bottom and not the sides.
Is there any way to have the FX look and and use the aspect of the event and NOT that of the project?

Make sure the Border FX is before Pan/Crop in the FX window. You do this by dragging it to the correct position.

That particular move Mike does wonders with other features and filters!

Thanks guys!!! I found it after I posted….and it works OK….
I have more issues with using pan/crop and keeping the FX proper. If I do match output aspect, I need to keep the border FX AFTER the pan/crop to keep the soft edge….if I am NOT using the output aspect, it needs to be in front. Also, when it is before the pan/crop, I have to run preview in draft to get any smoothness…

Really a pan in the butt. I am running an 8 core AMD, 16GB of RAM and a Radeon HD 6780 and I have to run it in draft to get smoothness on one FX and a pan/crop move….UGH!!

Or you can easily use the Rectangle Mask Creation Tool in
the Pan/Crop Window and Border or Feather the edges.
