Hi, i am currently working on a 4-5 min motion project where I need to texturize almost all layers with different fabric textures.
Most items that i use are shape layers which contain several paths that are animated. The resolution of the video is 2560×720.

My first approach was to use big textures with blending modes attached to the layers, but due to 3D space and the quantity of layers this did not turn out very well, also I always needed an additional trackmatte-layer synchronised with the original layer’s matte – that makes 3 layers where there should ideally only be one. And extreme zoom outs were also problematic.

The solution I came up with is to use seamless tiles applied to the single layers via the “texturize”-effect and then use a fractal noise effect (or a similar less cpu-consuming effect) to add some irregularity to the layer.

This approach works out quite well, but i am looking for a better way to implement the seamless tile textures. The problem is that the texturize-effect works like a bump map, it just creates a kind of relief of the texture. What i need is a plugin that applies the texture via multiply onto the layer.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

…digging deeper into the problem i am realizing that the bigger problem is the positioning of the texture in 3d space. the bump map does not move according to the layers position or the camera movement.

i know i can solve this with a precomposition but i am looking for a cleaner way to work with shape layers that allows me to access all path keyframes.

    any suggestions are welcome!
