  • Still images do not fit in the preview screen – Sony Vegas Pro 12

Posted by Regina Wagner on March 5, 2014 at 4:20 pm

    Hi,

I’m having troubles with the preview screen on Sony Vegas Pro 12, not with the speed but with the size of the images in the preview screen; I’ve been working with hundreds of still images for a home video edition, I have resized most them with the Event Pan/Crop to 16:9 so they fit my TV screen when work is finished. I was having no problem at the beginning, I could watch all the video+images sequence in the preview screen with the images fitting perfectly, but at some point images suddenly enlarged/widened in the preview. I cannot find the way to make them fit again in the preview screen. The strange thing is that when I get in the Event Pan/Crop feature the images are properly sized and shown inside the frame.

I’m not an expert, the solution maybe easier tan I imagine. Thanks for your help.

    Carlos
PS: Images added are around 300, from 6 to 8 Mb size each of them.

You state that you have the stills as 16:9, but 16:9 is a ‘ratio’ and not a ‘size’. What is your project settings? If it’s 1920×1080, then your still images should be sized 1920×1080.

I respectfully disagree, Dave. Certainly no smaller than project size for the sake of quality, but Vegas is happy to handle huge images, which can be desirable if you’re panning and cropping along the way. I’ve had my share of Vegas choking on big JPGs, but if you work with PNGs, you’re free to go big and crop happily.

Thank you. My project settings are 1920×1080 29,97fps; I’ve been adding, panning and cropping more than a hundred images without any problems when previewing them, but suddenly the images no longer fit inside the preview screen(I’m attaching a file so you can see both images Crop/Pan image and Preview image).

Your crop looks fine, but do you have any track motion also?

    Hi Carlos
I think I know exactly what you mean and what the problem is, after viewing your screen shot.
You need to adjust the settings for your Preview Window.
Right-click window and turn ON “Scale Video to Fit Preview Window”
Now you should see ALL of your images.

    Derek.

Thank you Derek, but I’ve just checked the Scale Video to Fit Preview Window and it’s already ON. What is strange is that when I open a new project images fit perfectly in the Preview Window, and this is not happening on my current edition.
