Render Format (I can’t change)
Shooting Go Pro footage of my kids and have been following vimeo and youtube tutorials on best render settings. When I try to change the format under the systems tab I am unable to. It just reads Video elementary stream (avc.). Thanks in advance for your help and what a great site this is. I’m really enjoying learning video editing here!

Jason, you need to post a ScreenGrab, here, so I can see your workflow thus far. Otherwise I’d be guessing, yeah?

This is an extremely frustrating part of the Vegas Pro UI design. You can’t change anything on the System tab. What you have to do is select a different template that uses a different System setting but there is no way to know which system setting a template uses. I guess the Sony developers thought it was easier to select the templates but then why even have a System tab that that suggests that formats can be changed?
What device are you targeting the videos for delivery? That will determine what template you should use.

Last night I was able to fix my problem. I’m a beginner pro12 user. My Go Pro footage was 1080, 29.9fps. I was attempting to render based on a vimeo tutorial. Pull up Render As and immediately I was unchecking the box that says “Match project settings” to bring up a more thorough list of render settings. Vimeo tutorial said to pick Sony AVC/MVC and go to render setting at bottom Bluray 1920×1080-24, 10mbps… I did, and was never able to pull down any settings in the Format area under the System tab. What I did to fix my problem was I checked the box Match project settings and then under the Sony AVC/MVC was one singular option available it was Internet 1920×1080-30p I chose it and next to my format option read MP4 format, which was what I was aiming for. So there you have it, my problem and my solution from a beginners point of view, hope it helps someone. And thanks to my previous responders

The video that told you to use Sony AVC for internet delivery was old and outdated for Vegas Pro 12.0. Previous version of Vegas Pro had templates under Sony AVC but Vegas Pro 12.0 now uses MainConcept AVC with the Internet HD 1080p template for Internet delivery. That’s all you need to use. No customizations needed.

Interesting, John. I’ve been trying both the MainConcept and Sony AVC and testing to YT. Also comparing the “Upload to YT”. I confess, I don’t like the results I’m getting with any of them.
Norman had mentioned something about setting the frame rate to exactly 30 fps (by typing it in). I’d appreciate your thoughts on that.
Also, do you know if the SVP12 “Upload to YT” using the Sony AVC or MainConcept AVC, and what settings are used?
Here’s a very rough draft of the first 3 min of an 18 minute project I have been working on for a while. This was was rendered with the MainConcept AVC. It has a mixture of 60i and 60p footage, along with a smattering of .avi stuff that has been processed with VeeDub64 for time-lapse.

I’m not sure what affect that would have. I guess it depends on how YouTube process the video and if it will keep it 30fps or convert it to 29.97fps anyway?
You could also slow the footage down by changing the playback rate to 0.999. That’s the best way to deal with 30.0fps footage. It will bring it down to 29.97 without any frame blending if you also disable resampling.
