    DVD Architect – Subtitles: size of text box and fade in/out?

    Hi folks,

    In creating subtitles in DVDA,

    1. Is it possible to stretch the text box horizontally to provide more room for the text or is this box size fixed?

    2. Is it possible to have slight fades (in/out) on the subtitle events?

    EDIT:
    I found a way to size the text box. When editing the subtitle, simply choose the sizing tool and click in the subtitle’s text box. I sometime need to click a couple of times for the handles to appear.

    The other question, re: fades… is still up for grabs 🙂

    Thanks for the prompt reply Mike.
    I was afraid of this as the manual had no mention of it.

    First time I use the subtitle feature. Quite good! I’m impressed.

    I am even able to create a rectangular black semi-transparent bg for the text using the “outline” feature. Helps make the text stand out.

    Love the way DVD viewers will have the choice of turning them on/off.

    There is NO One, Two or Three Button fix/es for this, but yes. Yes it is possible, but truly, you’re going to need to be a bit more adventurous and creative in understanding the options that DVDA can give you and an understanding on how to make a Graphic become TRANSPARENT (ALPHA Channel set to “ZERO”) and use it as an overlay to MASK out the text. All of this is possible in DVDA. Mike is correct you don’t get a ONE button solution, but you DO get options to manipulate Graphics, once you have them inside of DVDA:-

    A] Open Background in a Graphic Editor

    B] Cut the selection you want to use as the Overlay Mask back in DVDA. I’ve used a Screengrab, as a “dummy” Menu to locate the Graphic selection I want.

    C] Save as a Copy.

    D] Import the Masking Graphic

    E] Lay and carefully position (I made a mess of that!) the graphic over the Sub Title Text.

    F] Open the Crop/Adjust and adjust the ALPHA Channel in DVDA for that Graphic so that it FADES in time revealing the Text! Voila!

    OK, Gilles, once you start “digging” into DVDA you can do a massive amount. Steve Grisetti is a real Pack-Leader on this stuff. There are masses of SONY Tutorials to inspire and lead you through. DVDA? It can be both infuriating and liberating at the same time.

    OK, this example is real ruff! But you WILL get the idea and spark you into pushing DVDA. If you can Cut and Crop in a Graphics package and prepare a Graphic then you’re 96.75% there…..

    Example of Fading In Text in Vegas DVDA – it’s a ROUGHLY made example…

    Thanks Graham! quite nifty.

    However I don’t think I was clear in that I’m looking to fade the text of a “subtitle track”… as in English subtitles…. words that optionally appear on a playing video.

    I think Mike is correct and that there is no way to fade these in/out. Unless, once again, you can find a clever method from your huge bag of tricks. 🙂

    Yes, the subtitles as they appear in the lower region of the screen. Usually used for various language translaions.

    The default behaviour (only behaviour?) is to have the subtitle events appear and disappear as a straight cut. I was looking for a slight fade in/out on them.
