I’m confused about something…what is Cineform?

Is it a codec? Is it a post processing software?

I’ve visited their website and the presentation of information isn’t the best. I still left confused!

So, if it’s a codec, in which situations would I render to Cineform?

    Thanks.

Cineform is a codec. It is an intermediate codec similar to DNxHD and ProRes. You would use Cineform for some of the same reasons you would use the other intermediate codecs. Exactly which intermediate one would choose depends in who and what you are interfacing with.

GoPro owns Cineform these days and they have multiple versions of their software. The free and the more feature rich paid versions.

I can’t speak to the paid versions but the free one is a tool to transcode to Cineform and do some basic trimming and edits.
