How do I create a transparent text with a dynamic background?
In case you didn’t understand the question, below is a quick mockup I did in photoshop of what I want to do in vegas. I want to have a text over a shape, but I want the text with the other image/video as background, not the shape
I have tried multiple things and never got anything to work, this kind of stuff is already really scrappy for me in photoshop, in vegas even more as I have no idea how to do it
Help is really appreciated!

To do something like your mockup example, make the text color transparent and your background color solid black. The text defaults to solid white with a transparent background.

Im not working with the same entity. The shape and the text is separate so I dont think I would be able to do what you said.
I am also using Newblue titler with the text. Not sure if theres any option within that plugin to do this easily

Thanks that helped but its not exatly what I wanted.
I want the text to “see through” a shape to a video like the image I posted in which the shape is the black bar. That way you mentioned it only makes the text directly to the video.

Well… you have to extend this a little but they gave you the basic tools to work with.
Here is what you need to do.
Setup 4 tracks:
Track 1: White Text Overlay with transparent background
Track 2: The background video
Track 3: The Shape that you the text to see through
Track 4: The background videoInstructions:
Step 1: Set Track 1 composite mode to Multiple (Mask).
Step 2: Make Track 2 a Compositing Child of Track 1You’re done! The Background on track 2 will show through the track 1 text. The Shape on track 3 will be behind the text. The background on Track 4 will fill the rest of the frame giving the illusion that there is only one background with the text showing it through the shape.

That worked! 🙂 Thanks. I have to study a bit more the properties of child tracks, it seems to give some cool new possibilities.
That will increase the render / project size by having 2 of the same video on 2 different tracks tho, wont it?

Yes the render time will increase but not because there is the same video on two tracks, it’s because you are compositing 4 tracks together. So even if you didn’t have the same video on two tracks you are still composting three tracks together.
It will not increase the project size because the video is only added to the project once and just referenced twice. Likewise the render will not be any bigger because the videos take up the same amount of time.
