I just got a project with a lot of betacam-sp and hi-8 footage. Is there any way for SV Pro to control a deck using the old control S or rs-232 protocols?

No, Vegas Pro can only control decks that use Firewire protocol.

I think, also MIDI? I’m sure I saw Spot demo an audio mixer with external controls. Move the sliders on the mixer and the Vegas volume envelope on the timeline followed. I know it’s not what the OP asked, but it’s another example of external control, isn’t it?

Yes, that’s another form of external control but it doesn’t involve a recording deck. I have a PreSonus FaderPort that works great for mixing audio one track at a time. The Contour Design ShuttlePRO v2 is another great example of external surface control that every professional editor should own.

Unfortunately, none of these help the original poster who is looking specifically for deck control via a serial interface.
