Moving “video FX” from Vegas Pro 10 to Vegas Pro 12
I recently purchased VegasPro12, which came bundled with some NewBlue FX and transitions, however, did not include the ones that came bundled with VegasPro10 which I purchased a few years ago. My question is, can I import those plugins from VegasPro10 (32 bit) into VegasPro12 (64 bit)? I’m sure technically it’s possible, but wondering if it violates NewBlue’s license agreements, since these plugins came bundled with VegasPro. If it can be done, can someone please explain the procedure to do it (i.e. what files need to be copied into what directories). Thanks!!

As far as I know, those NB plugins were licensed only for Version 10 of Vegas.

Actually, “technically” it is NOT possible. You can’t use 32-bit video plug-ins with the 64-bit version of Vegas Pro regardless of any license agreements. We all had to upgrade or repurchase the 64-bit version of all of our 32-bit plug-ins.

I was slightly confused based on this response I had received from NewBlue: “Yes, our installers have included both 32-bit and 64-bit versions for Vegas Pro since Vegas Pro 8.1 (64-bit) was first released.”
But I think all that means is that the installer only installed the 32 bit version of the plugins, once it detected that I was using the 32 bit version of VegasPro10.

If it was an installer for Vegas Pro 10, it would have included both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. However, if it was for Movie Studio 10, it would have been only 32-bit.

Thanks Ed for your response. It was for VegasPro10 (not studio). So, are you saying that the installer would have installed both the 32 and 64 bit versions of the plugins into my 32 bit version of VegasPro10? If that’s the case, are those 64 bit versions sitting in a system folder somewhere that I can copy and paste into my 64 bit version of VegasPro12? (or is it not that simple…, i.e. the installer needs to modify other system files upon installation?).
I’m more than willing to re-purchase the plugins from NewBlue if I have to, I’m just trying understand if I need to spend the money or if it’s possible and legal to import them from VegasPro10 to VegasPro12.Thanks guys!!

No. If you had the 32-bit version of Vegas Pro 10 installed, it would install the 32-bit version of the plugin. If you had the 64-bit version of Vegas Pro 10, it would install the 64-bit version.
