  Broken WMV9 codec in Sony Vegas – How to fix?

  I have Sony Vegas Pro 10 installed on Win XP/SP3 and it works very nicely, apart from when I try to render a file to Windows Media Video 9 format where it fails to start, with the error message:
  “error 0xc00d0bcd (message missing)”.
  This problem with .WMV files on my system began a while back when I installed some other video editing software which unfortunately broke the codec, such that many programs eg Windows Media Player 9 on my computer, not just Vegas, fail to work with some .wmv files.
  So my question is, do any of the knowledgeable folks on this forum have any suggestions how to fix this?
  One sledge hammer approach I guess would of course be to reinstall Windows, but I would rather use this as a last resort due to the amount of work involved.
  Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.

  Why not try downloading and installing Windows Media Player 10 (Newer version) and see!

  Out of curiosity – what program did you install that broke the codec? Did you install the K-Lite codec pack (don’t)?
