  • Hard Time Loading A Vegas File

Hey guys, I have this film I have been working on for about 3 years, its a very old Vegas project that I think started on Vegas 9 and I just opened it with Vegas 10 and saved it as a 10 file..

On my old crappy laptop I was able to succesfully open the project in Vegas 10 and edit around the clips, now I have transfered it onto a more powerful computer and now I can barly open it.

Everytime I open the file it will load up but heres the weird thing, If i open vegas and then minimize it and go do something else Vegas will just stop loading the project, it is only if I open it and keep the screen open on Vegas for about 5 minutes that I finally get the pop up message that says that your files are missing or in the wrong place, so I go ahead and just press ignore all (I do this because I reccently was editing in mp4 format but then figured out to edit in mpg would be easier and then later just change the format back to the high quality mp4 files but while searching for the replacement files it makes me INDIVIDUALLY sellect each and ever file, I dont have time for that so i just pressed ignore just to take a look at what I have left to work with, but when I press it the program loads and i can see my project files all the edits I have done to them except there is one problem…

Now i cannot press anything, it doesnt even say Not responding its just as good as a picture, im assuming its crashed.

So what I did was try opening it in Vegas 12, so I did, exact same problems again even when looking for the new files it made me INDIVIDUALLY select each file again so I pressed ignore all and this time it took a long time but it actually let me have control and look around and play some of the file but in the end it was so laggy I dont know why it didnt work for me this computer is a i7 core with 8 gigs of ram…

Someone please help, I can as of now create a brand new project file and edit full blown hd videos with no problem, I dont know why this project takes so long to open and what is with all the freezing, can someone please help me as starting all over and re-editing is completely out of the question since it was so much work put into it

    Thanks

What’s the codec and format of your footage? I had problems like that switching from 10 to 11 with Cineform footage.

Well, at first im pretty sure it was H.264 codec as I went AVCHD to mp4, and then I decided to change the avchd to mpg files, probably divx? But eaither way this worked find on my older computer, now for some reason its giving me a hard time 🙁

Hmm how strange, I opened up vegas and just let it sit there for about 15 minutes to see if giving it time would help and it seemed to work! still very slow though because when I minimize it and go back it takes a good 30 seconds in order to be able to click on the project.

Does anyone know if I should swap my mp4 and mpg files to the original mts files?

Do you think it will load better and be more workable with those back in there?

Oh and one final question, If i were to do this im assuming that its going to force me to individually select each and every MTS file since the extension isnt mp4… That would take HOURS as I have probably over a thousand clips which would be tottally ridiculous to find A THOUSAND CLIPS!!!!

    Anyone have a suggestion?

If you are ignoring the media, be sure to click on the lightning icon on the Project Media so that Vegas won’t try to load it the next time.
