  Long project workflow, edit native codec or transcode?

  I am starting a long documentary project and am interested in the opinion of this group on editing with the native codec (AVCHD C-100 & H.264 7D/60D) or transcoding to cineform, or rendering to another codec for editing in SVP12.

  I plan on editing in Vegas and then grading in DaVinci Resolve.

  I’ll be shooting double system and will sync in VP12 with Pluraleyes 3, have not decided if rendering my clips to lock audio or just use nested projects,I’ll have on camera audio, and multiple recorders, and some multi-camera scenes as well. I’ll have to test the import/export of Resolve to determine this.

  In my experience, transcoding to Cineform AVI will give you the best editing experience when using multiple formats. It also has the added advantage that almost every video tool for Windows can read and write AVI files so you eliminate file format compatibility problems. I have CineForm NeoScene which also comes with a batch converter to make the transcoding go a lot smoother.
