Gamma Messed up when Rendered in Format Other thann WMV?
Hey guys. Having an issue with Movie Studio Platinum 12.
Typically I render to wmv. No particular reason except that it’s familiar. Recently, though, YouTube decided to add a fun new glitch that randomly messes up videos uploaded in this format (and sometimes retroactively to vidoes that have been fine for months).
So I figured I’d just render to another format like MP4. This is where the fun with Vegas has begun…
For some reason, when I render to any format other than WMV, the color looks messed up. It’s like the gamma is turned up too high. It’s bright and washed out. I’ve tried several formats and they’re all like that, except WMV. It may be worh noting that the original clips in the video (screen capture)were taken in WMV.
It’s definitely NOT that rendering is WMV is messing it up in some way that I like… the other formats look wrong compared to the original clips and the preview. Only WMV does not.
Any ideas?

Couple other details:
— I don’t believe it has to do with playing things in different players. I know some people have pointed out that VLC uses different codecs and therefore might look more like the original, etc. But regardless of which players I try, the WMVs look like the original and anything else simply does not.
— I am not using a Mac. I know some people have reported similar issues when using a Mac.

How does it look after it’s uploaded to YouTube? That’s really all that counts.

Just as bad as it looks after the render.
Unless I upload a WMV, in which case it has a high risk of developing the weird glitches I mentioned.
Right now I’m trying rendering it as a WMV and then converting it to another format in some other program. We’ll see if that works. Might not get it back from a co-worker until after the weekend.

OK, try this. Place Sony Levels with the Studio RGB to Computer RGB preset on the Master Video Bus (above the Video Preview Window) before you render to MainConcept AVC. This should expand your levels back to what you were getting with AMV.
