My VP12 has developed an issue. Every 3rd to 8th time, (no rhyme or reason)when I go to “file” and click “open file” I get a message “vegas pro has stopped working” I then send my error report and start over. I usually have 3 or 4 edits to redo to get back to where I was. This is becoming VERY annoying!! Any suggestions?

What type of media are you working with? What codec does it use? Some media works better than others for editing.

Also why are you using File | Open instead of just dragging and dropping media onto the timeline? Do you get the same instability with drag-n-drop?

Probably its the media you are working with that has an issue
    with Vegas.
And as John also mentioned, try drag and drop to the timeline.
Also try double clicking the project file and see.

Thanks guys. I don’t think it is the file type, because I don’t even get to a folder to choose the file. I simply click on “Open File” and it stops.

I am using 1280×72 29fps stereo .mov files from a Kodak ZI-8. It’s never been a problem before.

Yea, I have a Zi-8 and I haven’t had any problems with those files either. It’s really strange that you get an error with just File | Open. Maybe you have a failing hard drive or other file based device? I’m assuming that File | Open enumerates all of the hard drives. I would contact Sony. I’ve never heard of a problem like that before.

Here is the update and solution to my problem

It finally got to the point that when I tried to open Vegas, I got the message that it had stopped working.

I finally found three pieces of malware in the New Blue Titler. I removed them and everything works fine.
