Rendering to Quicktime MOV?

I have a client that would like me to render a 1 hour video (shot in 1080 24p AVCHD) to uncompressed Quicktime. I’m using Vegas Pro 11 and tried to use the Quicktime 7 format and the results were terrible. Is there a specific setting that I should be aware of when trying to output to MOV?

What are your render settings, and what are you using to play the video? That seems like it shouldn’t be a problem.

If you are rendering to the Quicktime uncompressed format,
(In the Quicktime render, None should be selected in the Video Format)
you should have no problem at all, your render should be perfect.
However on the other hand, your render could already be perfect
but you are watching it in an Inadequate player that dont play
this uncompressed format well.

Yea, just using a QuickTime template won’t work. You have to press the Customize Template button and set the template up to match your project properties exactly and then, as Steve said, make the Video Format None (Uncompressed).

Be warned. The file will be absolutely huge and you will need twice the disk space to hold it. 1 hour of uncompressed 1080-30p video is 625.08 GB. That means you would need 1250GB (1.25TB) of free space to render it.

I’m thinking I have the wrong codec. All I see on my “output format” for quicktime is quicktime 7. How do I get and install the Quicktime Uncompressed codec?

Uuncompressed is not a codec. Uncompressed means “don’t use a codec” so there is nothing to install.

Did you read my post? I already told you how to do it. Here it is again:
- Press the Customize Template button
- Set the template up to match your project properties exactly
- Make the Video Format None (Uncompressed)
- Save the template
That should do it.
