I have run into a snag with Sony Vegas Pro 12 (64 bit). I cannot load any project without “View Transform” in the project properties automatically set to “ACES RRT (sRGB). When I try to change it to “off” and apply the changes, it automatically sets it back to “ACES RRT (sRGB).” Now I can’t render out a video because I can’t turn this option off. Anyone else dealing with this? Is there a fix? I can’t even disable it!

Weird! I just adjusted the “Pixel Format” setting from 32-bit floating point (full range) to 32-bit floating point (video levels) and that enabled me to make changes to the view transform tab and the settings stuck this time. Every single time I load up a project the view transform tab is automatically set to “ACES RRT (sRGB). I wonder if this has something to do with my monitor settings and Vegas is adjusting to it. Not sure. Hopefully this isn’t an issue for anyone else.

Since most of us can’t afford a camera that captures S-Log video, I doubt that anyone else has noticed this.

Vegas won’t allow a combination of project properties that are incompatible which I suspect is why 32-bit FP won’t allow ACES RRT.

But, do you even need 32-bit? If your delivery is DVD, Blu-ray or web, then just stick to 8-bit.

Thanks guys. I think I just had the pixel format at 32 bit because it made the colors pop, but now that I understand what it is and that it’s not necessary to my project, I won’t have to worry about that issue.

I put a ticket in on this to Sony a couple of days ago and they indicated it was a know issue that will be addressed in a future update. The work around I found is as exactly as you mentioned to use the video gamma setting versus the linear gamma.

I had trouble as well. I thought it would be “easy” to apply the LOG lut to the project to view Log footage, but it looked worse and I had to re-synch a project because I did not try the feature on a copy! Ugh. Obviously not working if you cannot revert back to “none”

I have been using a color managed system for photography since 1999 and am still waiting for this workflow to be incorporated into video!

Hopefully in the next update it will be functional.
