A tough one?? I’m doing something wrong!
Hello again,
I am “playing” with “Stacking photos to create Star Tracks,” with the added idea of replacing the original foreground with a different foreground, via the chromakey effect. (You can see my result – and problem on YouTube, here:

Here is briefly my problem, and then a (detailed?) technical explanation, in the hope you can help.
PROBLEM:
Cannot “stretch” the MPG video which I place on the timeline, to fit/fill the selected template, even though I select the “Event Pan/Crop” to: “Maintain Aspect”= No, “Stretch to fill frame” = Yes.
TECH DETAILS:
Step 1: Still photos (333 of them) placed on the timeline and a MPG2 video created. The template was “HDV720-30p 1280×720” which is a 1.777 ratio.
The individual photos were 1.50 ratio, but in the making of the MPG2 video the “Event Pan/Crop” was set to “Maintain Aspect” = No, “Stretch to fill frame” = Yes. It was rendered as “DV 720-30p which is 1.777ratio. However,the resulting MPG video ended having a ratio of only 1.57 +/-, (not matching the 1.777 expected.)
Step 2: Starting a new project, Set at “HDV720-30p 1280×720 with the 1.777 ratio, I Placed the above video on the timeline, with the “Event Pan/Crop” set at “Maintain Aspect” = No, “Stretch to fill frame” = Yes.
Step 3: On a timeline above the MPG mentioned, I added a still photo, which had a 1.777 ratio, with green background & then used chromakey to remove it and leave only the desired portions of the picture visible. (No problem there.)
I then tried rendering the total video, using the same template as above, but the MPG would not “stretch” to fit the whole screen. It (the MPG) fills top to bottom, but letterboxes on the sides; whereas the still on the timeline above fills nicely. I don’t mind it being distorted, in this case.
Perhaps you can recommend the pre-sets to use, either in Step 1 or step 2? I am obviously doing something wrong.

Try undoing whatever it is you’ve done (e.g., just drop a fresh copy on the timeline) and then open Pan/Crop and right-click on the video and select Match Output Aspect. That will crop your 1.5 aspect photos to 1.777 aspect.

I added a fresh MPG on the timeline, opened the Pan/Crop but on then right-clicking that video I did not see the “Match Output Aspect” option. However, I noticed that on the Pan/Crop there is a “Preset” that reads: “1:1 Square Aspect Ratio.” I don’t know what it means, but selecting it – just out of curiosity – seems to have done what I was after!John23GR

You have to right-lick on the window with the “F” like this:

Thank you, John…got it! (I was right-clicking the clip on the timeline, not the “F” on the Pan/Crop.
Interestingly, using the “Match Output Aspect” ended up matching the clip’s width to full screen width (no letterboxing), but although it filled the screen both horizontally and vertically, unfortunately by doing so it cropped the top and bottom of the shot, thus losing needed material. (It sort of zoomed in until the widths matched.) Luckily, then using the “Preset 1:1” ratio it restored the vertical part of the shot, while stretching (distorting) the horizontal to fit. (In my particular case, it was acceptable.)

p.s. glad you are able to add a picture (1,000 words.) I’ve always felt this forum had a problem, explaining only by words, when sometimes a visual works best.John23GR
