  • How to add/substract time on timeline

This might be a simple question but how(if any) can you extend or shorten the timeline between clips. I’m working on a short that has many clips/effects and was wandering if there is a way to do it without having to select all clips and move them down or further out. Ex. If I decide that I need an extra scene between two clips, can I somehow extend the timeline itself between the two clips so I can add a third?

    Thanks so much!

    Edit Menu, Insert Time

Select the area you want to delete. Press delete. If auto ripple is off then use the appropriate post edit ripple option (edit menu).

I get the impression that you are not aware of ripple editing?
If this is the case, this is one of the basic tools of editing and can be selected/deselected using the icon, generally towards the right end of the default toolbar at the top of the SVP workspace. VERY handy tool and will do what I think you are asking about. Be aware that the little arrow to it’s right allows you to select ‘all tracks’, ‘affected track’ and ‘????’.

This one tool will allow you to insert clips and automatically move the timeline to accommodation, or conversely to delete clips and move the timeline to fill in.
