    Hi everyone,
I am looking for a script that will change the color of my timeline when the Ripple button is toggled on…here is why:

When adjusting a clip, I inadvertently have the Ripple button selected and pull all my clips out of sync.

Best case scenario is that I notice it immediately and have to undo and redo without the ripple on. Worst case is I notice it later and have to fix it…either way it is lost time.

The problem is that the ripple button is at the top of the screen and the timeline is at the bottom, so I can’t see if it’s checked or not without looking away from my edits. AVID has LIFT and EXTRACT buttons just below the timeline, which makes it easy to quickly check to see how edits will affect your project. I think it would be useful if my entire timeline turned RED to indicate that Ripple is on…it would be even cooler if I could adjust the color to any color. Any ideas?

I use ctrl-shift-F (or just F for single track) combination for ripple if I need to work on a project that needs frequent switching between ripple and non-ripple mode.

I think Dave wants something more prominent to indicate ripple edit is on. I have been caught a few times when I forgot to turn it off and messed up a complex timeline. The little highlighted icon up in the menu bar is too easy to miss. Would love the track header to have an indicator when in ripple edit mode… handy to know if it is on/off or single/multi track. Wish list for SVP 13.. maybe 14.

    Yes Thanks Phil.
I have submitted it to Sony several times in the past…but no change in recent versions.

Looking over the Vegas API, I see no way to turn Ripple Edit On or Off. Nor is there a way to determine the Ripple Edit state. Lastly, there is no way to access the colors (Options, Preferences, Display). Given these limitations, you’ll probably have to wait for Sony to implement this feature.

Phil, I have also asked Sony for this feature.
Maybe if a few more also asked for a more prominent “Ripple On” warning?

Tyson is right. There is no way to access the ripple button state from the Script API so there is no way to do this with scripting.

I see that Sony switched the Ripple toggle button to the bottom of the timeline in version 13. I haven’t had the chance to upgrade yet, but I will on the basis of this improvement alone! Thanks Sony!
