A client gave me some DVDs containing an old (2010) Premiere Pro project and wants the video to be reused in a new video. I don’t have and this client won’t pay enough for me to take the time to learn Premiere. Is there a straightforward process to migrate the PP project to Vegas?

In vegas you can do FILE-IMPORT-*.pproj

This imports the video from the Premiere project into Vegas. But effects applied in Premiere are not transfered into Vegas. And if you have multiple layers in the Premiere project, the order of the tracks changes in Vegas. That’s because in Premiere, the lower track is called 1 while is Vegas the upper track is called 1. So track 1 remains track one but changes from the lower track in Premiere into the upper track in Vegas.
In the past I have played with this import function for AE en PPro projects into Vegas, but I haven’t found any usefull application for it. But if your Premiere project has only one layer and no effects, than you could be lucky

Thanks Theo – so many options and this is one that i’ve never noticed because I’ve never needed it before now.

But, it doesn’t work. There are about a dozen .prproj files on the discs and after trying about four or five of them as imports, I keep getting various error messages. Index too large, invalid project, etc. I am guessing that the Premiere project is too complex for Vegas to import…
