    Hi All Sony Vegas Masters!

I am using Sony Vegas Pro 12.

According to the Sony website they stated:

“New! Share media between multiple projects

Media and bins can be imported from one Vegas Pro project to another. Bins can be merged with existing bins in the current project, or a new “master bin” can be created that contains the complete bin structure from the older project. NOTE: (1) Media must be online, (2) subclips are imported, (3) Generated Media is not currently imported.”

I am working on documentary that has probably 100 hours of footage. I have gone through 35 interviews, each with between 10 and 120 minutes long and creating new subclips. These subclips are the best of the footage and is what I want to keep. These are then categorized in what is fast becoming a very complex bin structure.

Now I’m at the state of copying the bins across to a master project, merge similar bins etc, so I can start assembling a rough cut.

The subclips (as well as the full parent clip) are carried over to the new project,

The subclips names that I given them are lost when dragging the bins into the master project. Is there something I can do to retain the names?

Maybe there is a way to do this correctly. I just can’t find it.

thanks for your help and insights! James

I’ve just done a simple Drag Bin to new instance of Vegas/Project and it worked.

Make a Test SOURCE Project of your “mammoth” VEG and try experimenting with another Test TARGET Veg.

    It is working for me.

Graham, It does copy the bin.

However the two things it DOES NOT DO is:

It does not keep the name of the subclip we gave it. We make the name of the subclip descriptive so we know what the clip is about.

It does not copy the media tags we set up.

Would you mind naming one of the subclips in the bin and tagging it and see if when you transfer it to another project, it copies that info too?

Thanks for looking into it. James

I named the Subbie; Created a BIN for it; Dragged the BIN to the OTHER veg and the Bin appeared there, with the name I gave it AND the named Subbie too.

But . . but . . but … The SOURCE Veg has now not being able to be saved, and it has hung . . hmm…

    Cheers

Graham, For us it will copy the bin but not the subclip name and not the tags.

We also have seen that if we have subclips, tag them, save the program, close it down, open it up, the tags are gone! Does it almost every time.

very strange and slowing us down…

Thanks again. At least we know something strange is happening. James

OK, User error on the SAVE – D: drive has filled-up!! . .

    OK . . .

Repeated, and most definitely NO, my names are NOT being carried over to the Target Veg in the Grazie-Bin.

    Hmm..

I paid for and then called Sony Tech Support yesterday and they verified there is a problem.

The other thing we noticed and reported to Sony is that when you used the tags with the subclips it does not remember them! When you close Vegas and open it up the tags are gone!

So the transfer of Media Bins and the tagging feature does not work! James
