Problem with importing a footage into a vegas pro 12.
Posted by Sad Sad on March 31, 2013 at 12:21 pmHi!
I’ve got a footage in XDCAM HD422 50Mb/s codec on MacOS hard disc and I can’t import it into a sony vegas pro 12 installed on windows 7 64bit. Anyone knows what should I do? Here is the screenshot from Quicktime film inspector:

I’ve been importing using File->Import…, but when I added it into a timeline, I’ve seen only audio tracks…John Rofrano replied 13 years, 1 month ago 3 Members · 7 Replies -

March 31, 2013 at 12:29 pmVersion of QT is: 7.7.1
I can’t play that footage in QT too. I’ve just displayed film inspector to show you codec details. -

That’s not a good sign.
Do you have a small clip that you can upload to a site such as Dropbox for us to try on our systems with a different QT version?
If you access to a Mac, render it out in ProRes and import that into Vegas. -

Yea, my guess is that Vegas isn’t expecting XDCAM HD422 to be in it’s native container and not QuickTime. Either get the native source files from the camera or convert to ProRes422 on the Mac.

April 1, 2013 at 12:20 pmThanks for reply, but it’s not good idea to transcode footage to prores, because I’ve got 300GB and I haven’t enough time to do that. I thought, I could download plugin or sth like this and I’ll be able to edit this footage. Meybe You’ve got some ideas with Premiere Pro CS.5/CS.6 or Avid Media Composer 4? I got this software too.

April 1, 2013 at 12:24 pmI personally don’t use Premier Pro or Avid so all I can suggest is that you try it and see if it works. If it does, great. If not, then you have no choice but to convert the files to Pro Res.

April 1, 2013 at 6:36 pmYour other option is to edit the footage on a Mac. If you’re going to capture on a Mac, then you need to either be prepared to edit on a Mac, or capture to a format that a PC can use. Otherwise you’ll be transcoding after the fact to make it work on a PC.
If you plan to edit on a PC it is always best to capture on a PC.
