I’ll try and make this as short as possible. Two projects involved along with some others.

Proj “SOTV” was 95% complete. Suddenly it started crashing. Proj will play fine from the timeline but if I move the cursor out of the timeline window V12 will crash 100% of the time. If will also crash if I try to edit the proj. I either get the white ghosted interface with option to debug of quit, or the standard “Vegas has stopped working…” pop-up.

Proj “WHITE” is 100% completed but also started crashing if I tried to render. (Rendering for BD). Finally it stay long enough to get my renders out. But if I move the cursor quickly around the interface, V12 will crash.

Tried a few older projects. A few seemed OK. A few would also crash just by moving the cursor up to the top of the screen.

What suddenly changed? Only thing I can think of is I installed MacDrive 9 to transfer files from a Mac drive to my PC. I have since uninstalled MacDrive thinking this was causing the problems. Made no difference.

My dynamic RAM preview is set at 200 and I do have the current and latest drivers for my Quadro 4000 card. I have NewBlue plug-ins, Mercalli 2.0 and Twixtor. System is WIN 7 64bit, 32GB RAM, Intel 3.2GHz CPU. Everything WAS working just fine.

In to day 6 without editing capabilities. My options and time is quickly running out.

    Suggestions?

Would be the exact very last adjustment/install you made on
    your system.

    Don’t move the cursor.

Seriously, you have a PC problem. My first suspect would be an interrupt conflict. Have you changed anything on the PC? Does anything other program exhibit mouse problems? what happens when you start the “render as” and don’t touch the mouse?

Try a soft-reset of Vegas: Holding Ctrl + Shift while starting Vegas will reset all preferences and delete cached data prior to loading the program. If you have recently installed new hardware (especially a new graphics card), this is necessary because Vegas may be loading settings for your old hardware.

Can you make a screenshot of the error?
I’ve had this project crushing error with the cursor a lot of times in the TV. Most of the times it is due to video file conflicts.
Check in the auto save folder for the backup of your projects and open a project from there. Be sure that when you open the project you will use the option “Remove all unused media from project” – you know it this “lighting” icon exactly to the import media icon in the menu bar.
Somehow the Vegas is crushing because some files are breaking its data. The file can be incomplete or damaged somehow. When you click on the timeline it is starting to process the files and when it reaches the broken one it crushes. It is not necessary that the file has to be in the timeline. It can be loaded in the project media or the project can read its info from somewhere. I believe that if this is the problem when the project is cleaned and loaded from the auto save a soft reset can fix the problem.

I hope that this will work. I’m not sure about it, but i wanted to share my experience.

Could it be the KB2670838 Windoze update?

    Is your project still crashing?

Have you tried.. “C:Users[your user name]AppData/Local/Sony/Vegas Pro12.0/Media Pool Thumbnails

Select all of the contents of this folder, and delete them.

This solved my Vegas 12 crashing which was due to a thumbnails creation problem. Your problem sound similar.
