  • Speeding up 1 Hour 40 of footage to 5-6 mins?

Posted by Andy Tah on March 9, 2013 at 4:08 am

    Hey there,
This is my first speedart project, and I have an hour 40 mins of footage.
I need to speed it up to 5 mins for my requirements. However, when I time stretch it, it’ll only shrink to 25:37 mins. Any way to speed this up?
    Thanks, Andy

If you have Vegas Pro, apply a velocity envelope as well for an additional 3X increase for a total of 12X (1 hr. 40 min. down to 8.33 min.).
    Save this as a project.
Start a new instance of Vegas, import the saved veg file and drop it on the timeline (this is called nesting).
Time stretch it or apply another velocity envelope to bring it down to the desired time.
Remember to “disable resample” each time to avoid blur.

So If i’m starting from scratch:
I applied a velocity envelope to each clip, Then do I time stretch it down to max? Or do I have to do something with the envelope first?

You can do it either way. In your case, set the Velocity envelope to its max (300%). Remember to adjust the length of the event each time that you do anything so that it’s at its new adjusted length.

You could buy VASST TimeWarp ($9.95 USD). It will speed your clip up to 10,000x. You can tell it the speed you want, the frame rate you want, or the time you want and it will figure out the rest. Just tell it to make the clip 5 minutes and it will speed it up to be 5 minutes.

    Another tool – https://vegasaur.com/rocket-speed
It has free 30 day trial period, so you can try it out.

Thanks! Would this work with multiple clips?

You can but you’d have to treat each event individually. It would be much easier to save it as a project and import the veg file. Then it gets treated as a single event, not multiple ones.
