  • Important question about Sony Vegas multiple tracks rendering

    Hello Guys,

I have one situation that just came up and i am a little bit confused.
I am working in a project for which i am using a file which contains 2 video track and 4 audio. (due to the fact that there are interviewer and interviewee and the first one is on one track, the second on another. For the audio channels as well – instead of being in one track for selecting which channel i need they are all in separate tracks).

The file is normal as you understand, only when you put it in video editing program it appears with 2 video tracks and 4 audi.
What is my problem – how can i render it exactly the same – with 2 video tracks, so when somebody opens it in video editing program he can have both video tracks. For the audio it is not a big problem, because the 2 channels are equal so i can just render it with left-right, but – how can i do the same for the video?

P.S – Steve Rhoden i hope that you can advice me 🙂

    Regards,
    Todor

I’m not sure I understand the question, but it sounds like you have the option in Preferences set to “Import stereo as dual mono”.

For the second part of the question – you can’t. Rendering (encoding, actually) is the process of making a single video track composited from the video tracks on the timeline plus any F/X or other edit commands.

But, why would you want to? Any compression (render as) will degrade the video quality. Why not just hand off the original footage?

    Hello Stephen,

    Thank you for the answer.
I don’t need to compress. The file is with bad quality and i just need to cut the ends and send it as it is.
My question is the following – the guy is giving me a file, which has 2 video streams and 4 audio. Of course when you play it on a player – vlc for example – you see that there is only one video. When you add it in your timeline all it information appears and in the first video track you see the 1st video, on the second the second video. And you have 4 audio tracks for every channel.
My question is – how can i make a video like this? To put 2 video streams in its properties, so when someone needs to edit it – when he opens the video in the timeline he will see that there are 2 video tracks. It can be made by other program – for example for recording and str – i just need to know if there is a possibility for video editing program to export such a file, which contains multiple video stream information.
I know that maybe it is impossible – it is just my curiosity.

    Thanks again.

As I said before – you can’t. In fact, I am curious that the client gave you a file “… which has 2 video streams and 4 audio”. In 12 years of video editing, I’ve never seen this. What is the source of the video file?

I am as curious as Steve… it would seem the file is a project file from an editing program, but it would need the original files to work. The only way you could see the two video streams is with an editing program, so unless the recipient had the same editing program and you sent the project file and its components it would not be viewable.
Odd that VLC plays the file… I didn’t think it was that smart. What is the file extension?

Thanks guys – to be more specific – here is an example for you:

It is not a big file – please download it. You will see 3 files. The 1st one contains the streams in it. My friend is with apple software and i am opening the footage with sony vegas 12 🙂
