Hi, I’m having a very, very odd issue with Sony Vegas. Whenever I import a video, the preview shows this blockiness in the video, and a lot of artifacts when there isn’t a lot of movement. I’ve never encountered this before.

What’s really strange is that none of this is in the original footage. The footage is in full HD quality with a high bitrate, so there should be no reason as to why this is happening, but it does. I even set the render settings to a very high bitrate, Two-Pass, Deblocking filter on, and still no luck.

If anyone is interested, the codec that is used with the raw footage is MPEG-1

I really, really need to upload this footage as soon as possible, so does anyone have an idea of what’s going on?

What setting is your preview window on? It should be set to Best(Full) to judge the quality of the video. You can keep it on Preview(Auto) for smooth editing with the understanding that it’s just a “preview” and not the final quality.

Hmmm… MPEG-1 is an ancient codec that no one should be using anymore. Where did you get MPEG-1 footage from? Seriously, this codec is meant for Video CD’s from 15 years ago and may be part of what’s causing your problem.
