I will start working with video editing
I do not have any special requirements
I want to master the tool i will work with
Now confused about which video editing tool to learn and study and stick to later on
My question simply: Shall I stick to Vegas or Premiere !?

I would say stick with Vegas. I’m still upset with Adobe and how I cannot read ebooks that were protected with their old DRM solution. I definitely would not trust them with my content and having them tell me I am not allowed to view my content again.

Asking for recommendations about Editing Software is like asking about religion.
What kind of video production are you planning on? Wedding and event videographers have had great success with entry-level products such as Sony Vegas Studio. But if you have your sights set on getting into movie production, then you should consider FCP or Adobe Premiere. I normally insert a snide remark at this point about the movie industry preferring price over performance (the higher the better). If you’re looking at getting into high-end video production (the kind that seem to require a crew of 5- to 10-people and get $50,000 to make a 30-second commercial, then look at Avid, where cost is apparently no object. Mine is a two-person shop that specializes in web video production for small businesses and Sony Vegas Pro has served me very well for 10+years.
Fortunately, most editing programs offer some kind of demo or trial package. Download and try all of them. (Hint – if the learning curve seems steep during the trial period, it will stay steep. You’re looking for something that just fits well with you.)
My advice is to go to the Creative Cow Forums and just lurk around the various editing forums. Do not repeat your “what’s best” question. First, you will be in program-specific forums, and second, reread the first line of this post.

Since you already narrowed your selection to Vegas or Premiere I would recommend that you try them both and see which one fits your workflow better. I believe both have free trials. I’ve tried to use Premiere several times but it still seems cumbersome. I use Vegas Pro because it’s the fastest editing experience with the most functionality bar none. And trust me, I hate the fact that I have to keep a Windows computer around just to use Vegas Pro because I do everything else on the Mac but Vegas Pro is just that good that I don’t want to edit video with anything else. The bottom line is that only you can answer that question.

Workflow simply means your editing process or editing layout/methods.

Yea, everyone has a different way of working. Some NLE’s make you log all of your footage in a very methodical way before you can even start editing. Some allow you to just jump in and drop footage on the timline and start cutting. How you work is up to you but your NLE needs to support that.
