Sony Vegas 12 – How to verify Smart Rendering?
I’m running Sony Vegas Pro 12 (64) on a Windows 8 PC.
2 Questions, here:
1) How do I verify if smart rendering has occurred or not? I ask because I have tried to smart render a 12 minutes video and Vegas took about 3 minutes to render. Project settings have been matched automatically. So the rendering was quite fast, but the output is larger than the original video so I suspect that smart rendering didn’t work properly.
2) As for the video used in the project, it was an Mp4 generated by a capture card. Can someone tell if Vegas 12 Pro supports smart rendering of this kind of video?

You will clearly see a black screen saying No Recompression Required
during rendering, as an indication when Smart rendering is initiated.No, Vegas does not offer smart rendering for Mp4 format.
You can disable or enable smart rendering (no-recompress long-GOP),
by going to Options > Preferences > General tab.Steve Rhoden

Is it a container problem (.mp4) or content problem (AVC video)?
BTW, could you suggest a tool that can smart render AVC/mp4? Possibly allowing a minimum functionality, such as fading & trimming multiple videos?

It’s a CODEC AVC/H.264 problem.

I don’t believe such a beast exists but if you find one, let us all know. For some reason no one seems to have one.

Well it looks like some other tools such as videoredo can trim and save mp4 without reencoding, however it misses all the editing features of Vegas….

Same for tmpgenc… it looks like some cut&trim tools can smart render h264, but cannot edit & smart render, who knows why…
Such an ideal editor should perform smart rendering on untouched frames and reencode where needed (transitions, filtered framed, etc) -
The technology will get near to all that soon Riky.
