  • Media Manager with Windows 8

    Hi,

I tried to install Sony Media Manager 2.4b on a Windows 8 system. Windows 8 does not support SQL Server 2005, therefore I installed SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM with SP1 directly from Microsoft.

At the end of the Media Manager installation I get message

“Unable to adjust the security on service MSSQL$SONY_MEDIAMGR2”

Has anyone found a way to install Media Manager on a Windows 8 system?

    Thanks.

    With kind regards,

My usual advice to editors is to not upgrade your
editing systems to a brand new OS, usually its best
to wait a while untill everything catches up.
Anyway Jan, Sorry i cant assist on that one, i
    dont use Windows 8.

    Good advice Steve!

Another reason NOT to UG to Win8. I really rely on MM. Thanks for the heads-up.

    Apologies, I can’t help either.

I don’t have Windows 8 either, but I did install MS SQL Server Management Studio (free download from Microsoft). It allows you to see the database that the Media Manager installed. Use this to see if Media Manager got installed and just could not set some of the security settings.

    Hi,

Normally I would have stayed with Windows 7, but I got a new computer and had to choose between upgrading everything later or installing Windows 8 now. I choose for the latter and in general I like it. It is very fast and I like the U/I once you get used to it.

I looked for a file with extension “.medialib”, but nothing was found, so it looks like Media Manager didn’t get to the point of creating a database,

You have answered your own question: “Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is not supported on Windows 8”.
Media Manager uses SQL Server 2005, so it can not be used on Windows 8.
Recommend SCS to release a new version.

Thanks. I did make the recommendation. For the time being I will use Picasa; works reasonably well.
