Rendering 1440 x 1080 to blu ray
Hi,
I have 1440x1080i footage that I’d like to Render into a blu ray movie.
What would be the best settings to use?
Would rendering into 1920×1080 make it look any better?If you need more info, please let me know.

I would render in the same format as the footage. If it’s HDV MPEG2 use MainConcept MPEG-2. If it’s AVCHD use Sony AVC or MainConcept AVC depending on your version of Vegas Pro.

No. If it’s 1440×1080 then render it as the same.

I am using Vegas Pro 11.
Is there any value in modifying any settings (i.e. Changing Video Quality to High, and Video Rendering Quality to High)?
As the files are M2TS, I take it i’d need to use the MainConcept MPEG-2 setting. Will the 25mbps setting give me a better outcome vs. the 8mbps setting?
I can imagine how trivial these questions sound. I really appreciate your advice.

The footage i am editing is as follows:
Type: MPEG-2 Transport Stream
VIdeo Stream: 25.000 fps interlaced, 1440x1080x12, AVCBased on the above, it would be better to use the Blu-ray 1440×1080-50i, 25 Mbps video stream? I had a play with the Sony AVC templates and couldn’t find much difference between them (other than the output file size). Futhermore, the MainConcept MPEG2 HDV template required recompressing in DVDA.
Where applicable, i made changes to the templates to increase Video Quality and Video Rendering Quality to Max setting.
Is there any benefit in rendering as Progressive (from the Interlaced Footage)?
I am not sure if DVDA questions are to be submitted in another forum, but thought I’d ask here also…

Yes, since your footage is HDV MPEG-2 I would render to MPEG-2 using the Blu-ray 1440×1080-50i, 25 Mbps video stream template.

That’s fine as long as it’s needed. Otherwise you will be wasting your time rendering and get no additional quality. That’s up to you.

Nope. Your TV is interlaced, you footage is interlaced, why would you want an additional conversion to progressive?

I would use the Blu-ray Disc MPEG-2 1440×1080-50i 16:9 project setting in DVD Architect. Render all of your footage at MPEG-2 25Mbps. This will keep everything in the same format.

I had forgotten to mention that the blu ray disc will be shown on a Full HD LCD (with progressive scan). Would a Progressive scan conversion make the video look any better?
I understand what you mean about unnecessary rendering. Based on your experience, does setting video and render settings to max (from default setting) make a noticeable difference?

If the video was not shot with a progressive camera then I would not convert it. Converting it will make the picture softer if you use Blend Fields and it will loose vertical resolution of you use Interpolate Fields so either way it will look worse.

I guess it depends on the footage. Render a small section of your video at the default and full and drop them on a BD-R disc and see if you can tell the different. I just did a test render using the default and max setting and the max setting took 8.5% longer to render. That’s not a bad trade-off at all so I don’t see much harm in maxing the quality out. I usually render with the default settings and have no quality issues.

Are you using DVD architect? The version I have only renders a resolution of 720×480…not 1920×1080
