  • Sony Vegas 12 doesn’t recognise MP3s

I’ve just upgraded to Sony Vegas 12, and it seems that it can’t recognise MP3 files.

If I use the built in explorer to navigate to my MP3s, they are simply not shown. A full folder of about 50 MP3s is shown as empty, only album art jpg files are shown.
If I try and drag/import MP3s into Vegas, I get the “None of the files could be opened” error message.

I was previously using Sony Vegas 10 and that can read the files no problem.

Any ideas? It’s as if Vegas can’t “see” the files.
I’ve tried a fresh re-install and updated QuickTime with no luck. Other files such as WAV and MP4 work fine.
    Thanks!

Vegas 12 can see and handle mp3 files quite well as usual.
It is something odd going on with your system or those mp3 files.
Try Renaming the folder the mp3 files are in, then restart your
    computer.

It works just fine for me in SVP 12. Is there anything unusual in the path to the MP3 files? Very long path, special characters like an apostrophe, or something else. Are you running SVP 12 with an account that is an administrator of the system or a restricted user account?

    Hello,
I downloaded a legal version of Sony Vegas Pro and the OFX bundles from Newblue. I installed them on my pc. The newblue titler 2.0 seemed to work fine. However after reopening some titler event, changing some parameters, at the closing moment i get a warning that vegas isn’t working anymore. A window appears asking to “send” or “not send” the fault info and by clicking either of them the whole screen is cleared. Done. Never got a reaction…
The same history on a brand new hp envy, so it couldn’t be the operating system.
I furthermore discovered that vegas 12 doesn’t recognize mp3-files anymore, while vegas 11 does.
Anyone any ideas ? because it’s a deplorable situation having spent money on unworkable software.

I just upgraded from Sony Vegas Pro 11 to Sony Vegas Pro 12, with a purchased upgrade.

I am having the same problems with Sony Vegas 12 not recognizing mp3 files. Sony Vegas will not recognize mp3 nor will it render audio to an mp3 file. The mp3 file options are not even listed in the render options.

Can this be for real? I have used Song Vegas Pro to edit video sermons for a long time and I always render the audio out with a separate render to an mp3 for use on a website for people who have slower internet connections.

When using an mp3 audio clip with Sony Vegas 11, I have no problem. But if I try to use the exact same mp3 file in Sony Vegas 12, the explorer tab will not even show any mp3 files.

If any one has any success in rendering to or using an mp3 file in Sony Vegas 12, could you let us know how?

    Thanks!

It’s taken almost a year, but I’ve finally got Vegas Pro 12 working properly with mp3s and other missing formats.

I ended up uninstalling Vegas Pro 12 and plugins, and then downloading the latest installer (Build 670) and trying it again. Apparently the problem was related to file verification. When you register Vegas, sometimes unregistered files would get skipped and in this case I assume it was the lame codec. This is my theory anyway.

    Hope this helps people out.
