Cannot install VP12
I unfortunately was part of the VP12 Beta program and now am completely unable to install a paid version of VP12, I have spent two days deleting every reference from VP9, 11 &12 beta from my registry and am still unable to install VP12.
Any ideas?
Sony has not responded with any useful info so far.

Can you provide some more details as to far it gets during the install? I too had beta tested and had version 10 and 11 installed. I had no problem installing the paid version last month.

When my disk arrived from Sony, I thought to uninstall 12beta, but an error message came up requiring me to get additional software from Sony. I have posted on Sony’s help sight, and have not recieved any help to date, just a link to a “clean uninstall” which I found and went through the procedure which did not help at all.
I tech support friend was able to delete 12beta, and many associated files in the registry, when I tried to install VP12 the disk would spin, the first screen came up and let me select “install vegas” then it would spin for a moment and stop. I downloaded the “update” from Sonys’ website thinking the disk had a problem, same issue, I would click on the ikon, and nothing would happen, zip, zero, zilch.
I completely uninstalled VP11, and DVD archatect 5.2, as well as any refrence to sony, vegas pro, etc I could find in my computer, and regestry, and there were hundreds of entries!
I tried VP12 from the disk and downloaded file, nothing, same result.
I finally reloaded VP11 & DVD archatect from Sony’s download file and it worked fine, just got my system back up and running. So I’m thinking the Beta versin installed a “kill switch” in my system that I could not find and it’s preventing me from installing VP12.
One interesting note, when I reinstalled VP11, my serial number was already in the system, and I tried very hard to find every Sony & VP file so I could delete it. Obviously there is something still in my system with program data in it, otherwise I would have had to install my user name and serial number for VP11.
This has been a huge waste of time, 2.5 days! and Sony has really caused an issue with my computer if I cannot install VP12.
My next step is to buy another hard drive, and then install windows fresh and rebuild the entire drive with all my software, that will take a week, but if I can figure out this install problem, then I’ll clone the C drive and save it as a back up and keep going with things as they are. This computer has been running for over two years, perhaps it’s a windows issue, but till now I have not had any problems like this, nor have I had any virus issues, as I run two virus packages.
I did disable the virus packages when installing, no go, and booted up in safe mode, no go, and turned off everything in the start up menu, still would not install.
The one issue I had with VP12beta, was that after I installed it, I went on location for a month, and neglected to uninstall it before it expired, that was probably a huge mistake, equal to installing beta software on my only editing system, which I’ll never do again, only on a cloned drive or not at all!

You might have missed this portion of the registry. I just became aware of this the other day.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sony Creative Software
I did upgrade before the expiration and I think it told me to uninstall, since the beta was a higher build number than the released version. After installing again, search for any log files just created, those may give us a hint about what is going on. I usually just search drive C for any files created today.

Thank’s for the tip, I looked for that file and found it, but it had no reference to VP9, 11 or 12, so I left it alone as I did not want to crash my install of VP11. This has been very frustrating and I don’t have time this week to waste on VP12, For all the time I spent already I could have bought a new drive and did a fresh install of Win7 & VP12, I may just do that.

A fresh install is always better if you have the time to invest to do that. I have had problems in the past with other software conflicting with Sony Vegas Pro in that they leave codecs registered after removing the files that support them (Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 messed me up where I could no longer view the footage from my Panasonic camcorder on the PC. Once I reinstalled Adobe again I was fine. Since then I have done a fresh install and left Adobe off. GIMP works just fine for my needs.
