AE freezing during render
I’m working on a title sequence that is names in a starfield and a camera move to each. All my assets are online and I have enough space. But everytime I render to make a movie it gets 3 seconds in and then freezes. (3 seconds in is when my first camera move starts). I turned on Activity Monitor and it seems that the process “aeselflink (not responding)” is giving me the trouble. Can anyone help me with this?

The aeselflink processes are additional After Effects render engines that are spawned when multiprocessing is turned on. Assuming you have enough physical RAM to multiprocess, AND that no other applications/processes are using the RAM it works well in most circumstances.
There are 2 things that may help. First use the secret preferences to purge memory every 30 frames or so. Hold down the shift key as you select General Preferences to access the Secret prefs.
If that doesn’t do it, turn multiprocessing off for this render.

Thanks for the suggestions, but it still stops about 3 seconds in.

i’ve occasionally found that some comp’s have problems with ae’s multiprocessing… try disabling multiprocessing in ae’s preferences. that should eliminate any issues with the aeselflink processes.
also, if you are using cs4, a new update was recently released (9.0.2). if you haven’t already, you might try installing it to see if it addresses a stability issue with ae’s mp.
