Hi there, Im a huge Sony Vegas fan… but, as I see when you search for a Job on video editing, they ask if you know Premier, final cut or Avid.

What do you think about this? do you know enterprises using Sony Vegas as their main video editor?

Thanks for your comments people, hope you all are having a good time.

What is your present position in the editing
field and where you intend on taking it?

This topic has been discussed to death in several past
posts, so do some searching and you will see the various
discussions and responses that are involved.

Now I work in a local University editing classes and conferences in Vegas. But here (I live in Guatemala) local TV Channels and video production companies work mostly in mac. I would like to leave my country someday and maybe find a job on video production or video editing and as I see, outside this frontiers is almost the same, companies use other video editing software.

I’ll search other forums for sure, thanks for answering.

Do you ask the carpenter what brand of hammer he uses?

Certainly not, but do I ask to a music engineer what software he uses to record and mix music. In fact… if I’m gonna hire someone, I need to know if he knows to work in the software I have.

Here, where I work now, the video editors (as in every place I suppose) must pass a test in vegas. If I want to work in some other place surely I should pass a test too… but what can I do if I just don´t have a mac or dont use any of those softwares at all.

That’s why Im asking about vegas in the labor market.

The bottom line is this: For the majority, there are only
three major editing software that’s named when companies
seeks an editor,Final Cut, Avid and Premiere Pro, So if you
are in the position of seeking employment in a production house/
Studio, its in your best interest to learn one of these, However
if thats not your goal, stick to what editing software you are
comfortable with and good at and try to master it. Therefore
in your situation, its Vegas you should continue using and master
your art using it………..There is nothing magical to figure out.

You can both invest and learn Vegas and Premiere Pro, and dont
forget After Effects, every editor should have it.
