Hi everyone, my first post here… be gentle!

I recently set my sister up with a gopro 2 and sony vegas 11. She’s been teaching herself how to edit, but has been running into a few strange problems.

The latest is this: She’s rendering in MainConcept AVC (sony AVC caused a crash on render, who knows why) and when she renders she gets horrible artifacting, although the preview plays normally. Here’s a sample.

I thought it might be something with the source files and the output so I had her send me one of the source videos, which I dropped into a timeline and rendered with the exact same settings… no problems at all.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? codecs? How can I fix it?

Tried turning GPU acceleration off, playing around with rendering cores, played with bitrate, single and multipass VBR, checked GPU, so far nothing.

    help!

Has she ever installed a codec pack? This could cause both problems.

If so, they can be very hard to clean up.

I’ll have to get back to you on that – it’s a relatively new computer, and codec packs don’t seem like the sort of thing she will install, but I will comb through the add/remove list and the programs.

Could there be any other causes?
