Vegas 11 Video Levels
A couple of days ago Vegas 11 Pro started doing the oddest thing, and it is driving me crazy.
Whenever I add video or still images to a video track, the level of the track automatically reduces itself to 49.9%. My attempts to put it back to 100% are useless, as it just goes back to 49.9% after 1-3 seconds.
This has never happened before. I’m wondering if third party FX sets are the problem, but I can’t imagine why that would be the case. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling 2-3 times, with no luck. I’ve also reset all the defaults via Can’t find any other problems like this online.
Has anyone run into this or at least have some idea what could be causing it?

I’ve never heard this one before. Have you tried a re-install?
There’s not too much to worry about when re-installing. You’re third party plugins should make it through, presets and fx packages too.Jeff

Same here, only difference is video levels fall down (drop) to 0 (zero) percent. Every 1-4 seconds. Nothing I’ve tried helps. Only solution is to use Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD 11. That way there are NO levels to move to 0. And no useful features too…
It happens without any plugins…
Windows 7, 64 bit. Happens on Vegas 9, 10 or 11. Reinstalling never helps.

I think I’ve got it. It’s freaking NOD32 antivirus. Added Sony Vegas directory to the Exclusion list and it’s not moving to 0 anymore! I bet you have it too… Here is image of Advanced Settings of NOD32:

Sorry for the delayed response, but I just returned from a business trip and gave this a shot. Amazingly, it worked! Thank you so much – how did you even think to check your anti-virus program?
Shutting down my anti-virus seems to have remedied the problem and reminded me why I spend so much time here.

Oops, spoke too soon. It doesn’t matter what level I set it to, it still defaults to 49.9% and doesn’t really want to move.
Sigh.

I just thought that some active applications can be changing behaviour of the Sony Vegas. And the antivirus was the first suspition.
But… I’ve got the same here. Checked my Project again… and now Nod32 exclusions didn’t help. So… I remembered that I’ve been closing bunch of programs before adding Sony Vegas to the Exclusions list.
Now I did the same, and closed programs one by one. When I closed “UPS Assistant” levels stopped moving back to zero. O.o. Shocked. That’s it. When I leave it running, the slider moves to zero, when I close it, everything works just fine in Vegas.
My guess now is, that the “UPS Assistant”‘s code is checking every 3 seconds for some information using the non-safe methods and somehow updates wrong GUI element Id.
Now, if you don’t even have this program running by any chance, try closing any apps that are in Windows Tray. Maybe you’ll find your 49.9% bastard 😉
