  • Rerouting links after moving projects and source

Hi, I’m considering moving all my video and projects from C: system to E: external. My veg projects and source video are in one top level folder in my documents currently. This structure would be maintained verbatim, see attached

    old

    C:/ etc…. /mydocs/video/subfolders

    new

    E:/video/subfolders

If I do this is there any kind of global rerouting for all my projects, so I don’t have to go through hundreds of missing files dialogs?

    Thanks

p.s. Or am I wrong and the links from project to source are relative and not absolute? That would be nice.

First, make a backup of your .veg files.

Interesting question. I suspect that every link is discreet. But the first time you run the project (.veg file) Vegas will say that it can’t find the media and it asks where to search for it. Vegas then offers to search for the remaining media files in the same location. My guess is that you will have to do this for every folder where you have the media. But only once.

All of my projects are on Drive B. I put the project drive into the USB dock then run a batch file I wrote (Make_Drive_B.bat) that uses the SUBST command to make the drive look like B: in Windows.

This way it doesn’t matter which computer I use, the project is always on Drive B:.
