Is there a way to do just a partial wipe transition, such as a page roll or blinds effect? I’m trying to reveal only a portion of a track over the top of another; in other words, picture a talking head on the right side of frame, he freezes and then a page roll reveals a graphic on the left of him (but stops just short of the frozen talking head), then unrolls back and talking head starts again.

    Possible?

Everything is possible, it’s just a matter of how to get it done!

I have Boris Continuum Complete that has a Page Turn filter
that would be perfect for what you are trying to achieve.

If one doesn’t have Boris Continuum Complete is there a way to do it?

Well, if it must be done with native Vegas tools, I would do it this way.

Sure, insert a transition like Page Roll, then right-click in the transition area and select Insert/Remove Envelope | Transition Progress. An envelope will be added to the transition to which you can add new nodes and make it stop or reverse or do anything you want like reverse back to the beginning giving you a partial page reveal and then close again.

John’s method works great. The only problem I see is Kelly wants the talent to freeze while this page roll or peel in stopped at the halfway mark. I guess you could make a clip of the leadup, freeze, and resume of the video and then add a custom transition progress to it.

For that you can add a Velocity Envelope to the event you want to freeze and set the velocity to zero during the transition.

John is a genius! I tried it all out and worked great. My first try I had to find the next frame after the split due to changing the velocity. The second try I adjusted the velocity before I split the event to add the transition.
