  • Can I change level on several tracks together?

I’m using Vegas Pro 9 in the audio mixing mode. I have a lead singer and a pile of instruments. Now that all the instruments are in, I find the lead vocal is a bit quiet, but if I bring him up (even just a little bit), it starts to clip.

I have the other tracks automated and mixed pretty nicely. Is there a way I can bring them all down a litte bit… together… rather than one at a time.

If not, is there a way I can at least bring each individual track down and keep the automation?

    thanks

Insert an “audio bus” track, and assign the instrument tracks to that. Then you can automate or adjust the level for the bus track to set the level of the instrument mix, without affecting the vocal. I don’t owm Vegas Pro so don’t know exactly how to do this, but that’s the general idea.

It’s also perfectly acceptable to pull the master level down a bit to lower the overall level. That will give you some headroom to boost the vocals a bit.
