    hi,
I have to create an animating, looping background for a video.
This needs a blue radial ramp gradient (which I’m fine with) but also beams of light that shine from top left corner into the blue. think sun rays shining through ocean surface and viewed from below.

Somewhere a couple of years back I saw a tutorial whereby you create a looping 3d light beam by simply creating monochrome 3d planes and rotating them with lots of blur. you can then render this an use blending mode to add it to your scene. A nice simple solution ,you can also reuse this in other projects, but…

I cant quite get the look and feel I want.Does anyone have any suggestions, or know where to find that tut? I’v been looking for it for days!

    Cheers!

Here is a tutorial from Andrew Kramer which creates light rays using the fractal noise filter.

The fractal noise filter is completely loopable from within it’s settings. You simply set the evolution options to “Cycle Evolution”, set how many times you want it to cycle before a complete loop occurs, and then you keyframe the evolution to your liking.
