Vegas 11 render .wmv files
Posted by Larry Brewer on February 28, 2012 at 9:34 pmWhy does Vegas render slower and slower as it processes a WMV file.
My Vegas 11 starts wmv render using 75 – 80% CPU and 5 to 6 GB ram.
But this slows to a crawl later in the rendering process. Any work around? Any advice?

that’s how it seems to handle rendering that format.Steve Rhoden

February 29, 2012 at 4:41 amI have always understood that Vegas is slow to render .wmv files. What really puzzles me is why the render rate varies so much. I’m not running out of disk space or RAM. The CPUs just seem to slow down after the first few minutes of rapid rendering. Eventually using only about 12% of CPU capacity.
Where I come from a 15 minute video should take approx 15 times longer to render than a 1 minute video, everything else being equal. Generally speaking, after 4% of rendering completed, with Vegas the estimated time remaining is established and you can go get a burger and coke. Not with wmv files! The longer it renders the slower it gets. It will finally come to a crawl speed. This is just stupid.

February 29, 2012 at 1:39 pmThis sounds like it might be a bug. I would report it to Sony. Usually a slowing down like that indicates resource contention of some kind.
Vegas has never handled WMV well and I avoid that format at all costs. IMHO, MP4 is a better delivery format in both quality and compatibility (PC/Mac) and renders really quick in Vegas Pro 11.0 using the MainConcept AVC codec which is now GPU enabled.
